Job Description

A designer will help promote UMSL visually on print, digital, and the web. This position is essential for presenting UMSL’s accomplishments and recognizing the history of the leading public research university in the area. With our 60th anniversary quickly approaching, a $100 million investment to change the look of our campus, and the launch of a new enrollment brand, it’s an exciting moment to be at UMSL. We’re searching for someone who is a brilliant designer, a creative thinker, and an idea explorer. You will work alongside our staff photographer, PR and content team, online and digital team, other designers, and a copywriter as a member of the Marketing and Communications team, reporting to the Director of Creative Services. The focus of this designer’s work will be on University Advancement, Executive Events, and Enrollment Management in order to better align the UMSL brand and raise the university’s exposure in support of strategic priorities.

You should be able to:

  • Design proficiently on a Mac platform using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Create incredible view books, billboards, digital commercials, and other print and digital marketing materials.
  • Collaborate closely with University Advancement on branding and promotional materials for fundraising objectives, such as Executive Events.
  • Collaborate closely with the Office of Enrollment Management to develop marketing materials for recruitment.
  • Utilize PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Art direction of photo sessions.
  • Offer further picture manipulation, clipping paths, and image retouching.
  • Create and convey complicated messages succinctly and clearly.
  • Create final press-ready files in accordance with the given parameters for various printing types.
  • Prepare the specified formats of the artwork for production and fix any problems with the artwork that come up during production.
  • Maintaining deadlines while juggling many projects for various clients.
  • Present and clarify concepts to clients and internal teams.
  • Consider and comprehend artistic direction.
  • React favorably to suggestions made by clients and the creative team.

Additional preferred skills:

  • ·         Previous employment experience with or for a public or private university or college.
  • ·         Professional design work experience supporting fundraising efforts and/or recruiting efforts for higher education institutions.
  • ·         Capabilities in motion graphics and inventive photography.
  • ·         Editing of video.

Salary

Pay is commensurate with experience and education.

Salary range: $48,900-$58,815 per year

Grade: GGS-10
University Title: Senior Strategic Communications Associate

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree is required, as well as at least three years of experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ·         A bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as visual communications or graphic design.
  • ·         Must have expertise using a Mac platform and be proficient with Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • ·         A plus is having prior experience with motion design and/or video editing.
